Go cry, emo kid

I bought a Weezer cover of The Pixie's Velouria. I really like it because it's not about Weezer bringing anything new to the song - the tempo is almost exactly the same, and there's maybe one or two characteristically Weezer feedback whines. It's not so much homage as a straight up copy. The main thing Weezer brings to it is the same intense wistfulness and sad frustration that Rivers Cuomo brings to every other Weezer song you've ever heard. When Frank Black sings it, he seems admiring, possessive, and joyful. My Velouria is really his Velouria. (An aside: I don't know what  Velouria was inspired by or what it's about, and I don't care.) When Cuomo sings it, he sounds mopey and bitter. This is so fitting for anyone covering a Pixies song - what a hopeless endeavor, and yet, how can anyone help it. It's so meta. I dig it.

So they changed the SAT, apparently?

..and now, the highest score isn't a 1600. I only know this because I got a resume, and the person said they scored 2100 on the SAT, and I was like, ha ha, very funny, you can't score a 2100... and then I went and checked, and nowadays, you totally can.

These whippersnappers, scoring more than 1600. Like it was nothin'.

Today

I bought a Janet Jackson Rythm Nation style black hat. Partly because it's raining and I don't have an umbrella, and party because I think they're hella cute and a little bit trashy. Mine isn't quite trashy enough yet - I have to Beadazzle it. Then it'll be my raining/drinking hat - I'll wear it when it rains, and when I'm drinking. Hands off my drinkin' cap!

Every cake you bake, every rake you break

I just heard, then bought, then heard about ten more times, the new Death Cab for Cutie single. It's called I Will Posess Your Heart, and it's rilly rilly good. Not since Every Breath You Take has a stalker-song sounded so sad'n'beautiful. It's definitely on repeat on my ipog.

"Can you tell me why you have been so sad?" Ben Gibbard sings on Transatlanticism, and my response is, 'Um, why are YOU so sad, Ben Gibbard? What have you got to be sad about? Whatever it is, please don't stop.' Emo 4evR!
